What Is Natural Language?
October 23, 2019
What is language? Language is a protocol,
it’s a set of rules that allow someone to communicate with someone else. There are
formal languages like XML HTML COBOL these are formal languages. This is the
way we talk to computers so they understand us in a precise
non-ambiguous way. The problem is we humans talk to each other in natural languages, Spanish,
English, Catalan, these are natural languages. Languages that evolved with
humanity, with humankind nobody invented these languages and on top of that they’re
evolving and there’re appearing new languages appear, old languages disappear
forever. Computers are not very good at understanding natural language that’s why
the field of artificial intelligence called natural language processing was
born to make sure that computers understand natural languages, human languages,
and this is the field of artificial intelligence as we are very much specialised in.
