The Mission of Hands & Voices (American Sign Language)
August 7, 2019
What is Hands & Voices? Hands & Voices is a parent organization serving families with deaf and hard of hearing children
all over the world. Hands & Voices started with a small group of parents and families with deaf and hard of hearing children, professionals, and deaf and hard of hearing adults who gathered to discuss how to help families with deaf and hard of hearing children. That became the mission of the group. Hands & Voices grew year after year. We started small in Colorado and now almost every state has a chapter of Hands & Voices. Hands & Voices’ mission and purpose is to help families and support families on the journey with their deaf and hard of hearing children. We come together to support one another, regardless of communication mode/methods, background, experience, –it doesn’t matter. What’s important is that we work together and help each other. I am Karen Putz. I serve on the board of Hands & Voices and I also am the Co-Coordinator of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Infusion. My job is to focus on bringing deaf and hard of hearing people into every chapter and every aspect of our organization. We have a newsletter, The Communicator, which is printed and sent out four times a year. Anyone can join Hands & Voices.
