The Letter B | American Sign Language | Phonics | Words that Begin with B

hi I’m Georgia now welcome to our letter
of the week series and today we’re going to do the letter B okay so we’re going
to be doing the letter B and this is the ASL sign for the letter B your fingers
come up your thumb goes across the palm of your hand and B is a single sound
consonant which means pretty much every time there are a few exceptions but
almost every time you see the letter B you’re going to be saying buh buh that’s
the letter B so everybody when I do a sign you do a sign so everybody do the
letter B all right and we’re gonna be doing a lot of words that start with the
letter B okay now our first sign that we’re going to do is the color blue all
right so now when they develop ASL they tried to make some signs as many as they
could look like what the sign actually was so that would be iconic but some they
used the first initial and that’s what they did for the letter or the color
blue they use the letter B so this is the letter B and when you sign letter B
you have to leave it still because if you twist it okay flick your wrist like
that you’re signing the color blue so we make your letter B and you’re gonna go
flick it twice and now you’re have the color blue so let’s use blue and a
sentence I am wearing a blue shirt okay now the next color we’re going to do
because there’s lots of colors that start with a letter B is the color brown
now they use the hand sign the letter B in the color brown but they
can’t do this because what’s that that’s blue right so we’re going to take that
same ASL sign for B and you’re going to drag it down the side of your face this
is the color Brown because everybody’s face is some
shade of brown now the next color that starts with the letter B is the color
black well we can’t use it like we did for blue and we can’t do it like we did
for black or brown sorry but when we cut we find black when they developed ASL
those was hundreds of years ago all men wore hats and when after they worked all
day and they took their hat off they had a big black line going across their
forehead so this is the sign for the color black okay this is black now some
signs I remember I told you about men wearing hats well boys wore caps alright
so this is the sign for boy so all of your male signs boy man daddy father
they’re all up here at your head because men would wear hats so here we go this
is a sign for a boy the others we got two other pictures here on this picture
ball this is a sign for ball and as I’m saying these words listen for that buh sound
okay so this is ball so the little boy is going to play with his ball the other
picture we have up there is a bat this is a baseball bat so the sign for
baseball it’s one of those iconic signs is like you’re going to be hitting a bat
right so this is the sign for baseball bat remember boys are up here well the sign
for brother starts up here at the head as well now this is the letter L we
haven’t done the letter L yet but here we go so you gonna make 2 L hands one’s
gonna be down here and ones going to be up here at your forehead
and you’re going to take that top L and come down to your bottom hand and this
is a sign for brother brother okay so do that is you’re going to put one L up
here one L down there and brother so let’s use it in a sentence these two
little boys they look like brothers the next time we’re gonna do is for baby so
everybody do that’s just like you’re rocking a baby when I hold a baby I like
to hold them like this because they like they love it so much
okay the sign for baby bed starts with the letter B and again it’s one of those
iconic signs if you were gonna go to bed you would probably do something like
this or this doesn’t matter it doesn’t matter what side you’re on
okay this is and you can also do it one-handed if you would prefer okay so
you can do bed like um bed use bed in the sentence Georgia okay blank let’s go to bed and go to sleep
okay like okay another here we have bicycle here’s a sign for bicycle looks
like you’re riding a bike I love to ride my bicycle down to the beach and in the
morning I like to eat breakfast now the sign for breakfast is like a two-part
sign this is a sign for eat and this is the sign for morning for morning it’s
like the sun’s coming up so when we talk about
breakfast it’s the meal that we eat in the morning so I love to have a bagel
and a nice cup of hot tea for breakfast and some animals look like what they are
this is a sign for bear it’s like I’m gonna give myself a big bear hug okay so
you kind of scratch yourself like this so this big this big brown bear you know
look he looks he looks a little angry but it could be a teddy bear – okay and
bath like you’re giving yourself a bath you’re gonna scrub scrub scrub scrub
scrub okay after we’ve been playing outside and riding our bicycle and
playing baseball with and and with our baseball bat we’d like to come in and
take a nice bath before we go to bed some foods have start with a letter B
and one is banana so you put your pointer finger out and it’s like you
look like you’re peeling a banana you know you have to peel a banana before
you can eat it and birthday I love birthdays the sign for a birthday is
you’re going to touch your chin and your chest well there’s a there’s a couple
different signs but this is probably the easiest one to do for a birthday is
you’re going to touch your chin in your chest so you can have a birthday party
you can have birthday cake you can open birthday presents okay
so now get ready because I’m going to be telling you a story and I’m going to be
leaving out all of these B words that I just taught you okay and we’ll see how
well you can recognize what the signs are so you might want to review and get
ready for the story okay okay so now this is gonna be the story
it doesn’t really make any well it’s kind of a goofy little story but see if
you can figure out or recognize the signs all right okay here we go once
upon it time Brett woke up got out of and ran to
wake up his Bob Brett got dressed he put on his jeans and his shirt and his shoes
Brett and Bob ate and Brett grabbed us to take with him for a snack later on
they got there and there hopped on there and rode there to the park so that they
could play with their friends but they could only play for a short time because
they had to get home for their little Billy’s party mom was at home and she
gave Billy uh to get him ready for his party he was going to be two years old
so he was feeling like a really big at his party
they ate cake saying happy and Billy got to open up his present a really big
stuffed and they lived happily ever after
okay so now I’m gonna tell basically the same story again but this time you’re
not going to have a little pictures as a clue okay so see if you can recognize
all of these B words and the B signs okay okay
once upon a time brett woke up got out of and ran to go wake up
is Bob Brett got dressed he put on his jeans his shirt and his shoes Brett and
Bob went and ate and Brett grabbed us to take with him for a snack later on Brett
and Bob got there and there and got on there and rode there to the park where
they were going to play with their friends but they could only stay for a
short time because they had to get home for their little Billy’s party mom was
at home and she gave Billy uh to get him ready for his party Billy was going to be two years old and
he was feeling like a really big at the party they ate cake they sang happy and
Billy got to open up his present a really cute big stuffed and they all
lived happily ever after so how did you do did you hear all those
sounds and all of those B words well keep practicing and use these words you
know throughout the day and you’ll get really good at signing and recognizing
what the signs are okay so be sure you subscribe so you’re going to get
notification of all of our letters we’re gonna do all the 26 letters so today was
