Signing Savvy Mature Signs
September 9, 2019
To be a complete dictionary, we realized that we needed to add
some words and signs that some folks may consider mature. It is especially important for health care workers, patients, social
works, and educators to have access to this vocabulary. But at the same time, we want to keep Signing Savvy family friendly. So mature words may only be viewed by users
who have an account on Signing Savvy. Either a free registered user account or a member account. This allows you to choose to either turn on or turn off mature words. My account presently has this feature turned off. So if I search for a potentially mature word
– I will search for the word HICKEY. Which some may not consider mature but it happens
to be marked as mature in the dictionary. You can see if comes, HICKEY, and it is listed as “mature”. And then is says, “this is potentially a mature sign.
You have chosen not to show mature signs.” “If you would like to see it, you can
change your preferences in the account settings.” Now if I went to Browse By Letter, and
looked at Hs, HICKEY would not show up because I have Mature Signs turned off. The only reason this showed up is because I
did a direct search for the word And Signing Savvy is telling us that it is actually in the dictionary but it will not show it to us
because we have mature words turned off. So I need to go to my account settings. Now of course I can just follow the link right here but at any time you can find your account settings
under the link in the top right corner. So here I am on the Account Information page. Within the Account Information page, I can modify all
different types of settings on my account such as my email address, my password, my nickname and so forth. but in this case, I just want to modify my SHOW MATURE SIGNS option. So let me go ahead and click on CHANGE PREFERENCES. and here you can see the SHOW MATURE SIGNS option is turned off. So let me turn it back on and say CONTINUE to set that. Now when I search for the word HICKEY,
you can see the sign comes up. It is still listed as mature, but I can now view it.
