Sign Language Lessons: Alphabet & Numbers : How to Sign Numbers 7,8, & 9 in Sign Language

Hello! My name is Melissa Schenk and on behalf
of Expert Village, today we’re going to be learning about sign language. In the up coming
clips, we’re going to learn how to sign the alphabet and the numbers 1-10. In our last
2 clips, let’s now learn 7, 8, 9, and 10. Do you remember 6? We went from 5 to 6. This
is where it gets a little bit easier. Each one is going to be a bit different but very
similar. 6 goes to 7. 7, so instead of the pinky finger you’re going to take your ring
finger and join it with your thumb. 6, 7. 7 then goes to 8. 8 to 9. You’re getting the
idea I’m sure. 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. 10 is a little different. As it says here,

  • could you count past ten please?! i have gotten confused with the difference between signing a series of number and double digit numbers! i dont know what direction to be signing double digits inward or out!

  • Just so it's clear, you should never make these signs with the palm of your hand facing you. You'd be signing to yourself! Always face your palm towards the person you're speaking to when signing numbers and letters like this.

  • Please watch the video on YouTube called "ASL Teaching: On Behalf of the Deaf Community (with voice)." Please leave ASL teaching to Deaf ASL users. Thank you.

  • SHE DOESN'T KNOW ASL—JUST FYI. She is teaching a whole lot of things just plain wrong. Don't learn from her.

  • What are you doing?? You don't sign numbers with your hand towards yourself! What did you do? Look at an ASL book and decided you're going to teach it? Your videos are an affront and insult to Deaf people and their culture. I'm not just a random viewer. I'm a professional Interpreter with multiple Certifications (TC, OIC:VS, CT, CI) and have worked as an Interpreter for 32 years. I just heard about your videos, and I am, frankly, horrified.
