Ranieri reveals kind gesture Mourinho made to him after he got the Fulham job

Jose Mourinho was the first person to welcome Claudio Ranieri back to British football, according to the new Fulham head coach  But the man Ranieri calls his ‘very friendly friend’ has not always been so polite in the past, branding the Italian ‘a loser’ in 2004 and ‘too old’ in 2008   The two will meet on Saturday, when Ranieri’s Fulham visit Mourinho’s Manchester United and the handshakes in the technical area should be warm  “He’s a fantastic man,” Ranieri said. “He was the first who sent me a message to say welcome back and he is a very friendly friend He’s a great man, coach, and manager.  “I know him for a long time when he came to Chelsea, and in Italy, and he was very polite with me ”   Yet in 2004, after replacing the Italian as Chelsea manager, Mourinho said Ranieri “was considered a loser” at Stamford Bridge  Four years later, when Mourinho was in charge at Inter, he said that Juventus boss Ranieri, who was then 56, “has the mentality of someone who doesn’t need to win He is almost 70 years old. He is too old to change his mentality.
