Nirbhaya’s Rapists to Hang on 22nd January

A 23-year-old girl who was physiotherapy intern was travelling in a bus after finishing work. She was raped by 6 men on December 16, 2012. They brutally raped her, inserted a rod in her private parts and then threw her out of the bus after which they escaped. She was taken to a hospital in Delhi for treatment. But due to her critical condition, she was taken to Singapore for treatment. However she died on 29th December 2012. According to the law, her name was to be kept confidential. The media then named her Nirbhaya because it means fearless. These men were immediately arrested by the police and the court gave them the death sentence in 2013. After that, even the High Court pronounced the death penalty. In 2017, the Supreme Court, went through the information and pronounced the death penalty. However, its been so long they have still not been hanged. The police said that they can start the execution process but since they have not received the death warrant, they cannot start the process. This is why they were waiting. The rapists also kept filing appeals in the Supreme Court saying asking for a pardon, but they were all rejected. Their appeal was rejected because the girl was brutally raped and murder. Nirbhaya’s parents were very angry that the rapists weren’t hanged. Now after 7 years Delhi’s Patiala Court announced on Tuesday 7th January 2020, that the men will hang for sure. Out of the 6 men, once committed suicide and one was a minor who was jailed. The other four will surely hang on 22nd January 2020 at 7:00am. Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi said that, “My daughter has finally got justice”. I am happy that the 4 men will hang. She is happy they will be hanged as now Indian women will become stronger. I believe that the strong laws of the judiciary will make sure these four men will be hanged. All the criminals are currently lodged inside Tihar jail, where they will be hanged.
