Goa Swimming Coach Accused of Rape

Surajit Ganguly – this is his sign name – is from West Bengal. He was a former swimmer. He has won many medals at the different Asian championships. He is the coach for the Goa swimming team. He was honoured by the Goa State Assembly for making the state proud by training the swimming team. On 4th September, a 15-year-old gold medalist swimmer posted on social media and said that Ganguly had sexually assaulted her for the past 6-months. She said that she had a very bad experience with him. The swimming coach would touch her inappropriately. He threatened her not to tell anyone and harassed her. The girl kept quiet because she was afraid. The 15-year-old girl said that he even went to her house and misbehaved with her. The girl lodged a complaint at the police station in Hooghly on 5th September 2019. Her father sent an e-mail of the complaint to the Goa Police. The Goa Police registered a case against him under the POCSO Act and tried to find him but he was missing. The girl’s post on social media has gone viral. On 4th September, Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju – this is his sign name – said, strict action will be taken against the coach. He has ordered the police to catch him immediately. On 5th September Rijiju tweeted and said that the Goa Swimming Association has canceled his contract . He told all the swimming associations in India to never give him a job.
