How To Learn Sign Language

Contribute closed captions, subtitles, and metadata

In this video we’ll show you how to submit
closed captions, subtitles, and metadata like titles and descriptions to your favorite YouTube
videos. To get started, find a video that you want
to contribute to. Click the gear icon in the player and then
click the Subtitles/closed captions menu. From here click “Add subtitles/cc”. On this page click the “Select language”
button to choose a language. If you don’t see the language you want to
translate, just use the search bar to find it. Now you can start playing the video on this
page. When you get to the part where you want to
add a caption, type your text into the box. Clicking the Plus button will add the caption
in, or you can press “Enter”. Once you’re finished, you’ll just need
to make sure your captions are timed correctly to what’s been said. You can drag and move the captions text. If you’re translating in another language
and the video’s original captions are already complete, this page may look a little different. Since the timing of the captions has already
been completed, you’ll just need to translate each caption. To speed this up, click the “Autotranslate”
button. Since this is done by Google Translate, you’ll
need to review and fix each line to make sure it’s correct. And once you’re done adding captions, click the
“Submit contribution” button. If you’ve only added some captions, you
may want to choose the “No” option. This will let others from the YouTube community
finish the captions for you. If you’ve added in all of the captions and
want them to be reviewed, click the “Yes” option. Before you submit, you can click here to get
credit for your contributions. Please note that if your name doesn’t show
in the list of credits, it may be because you didn’t contribute enough to the currently
published version or the version that you contributed to isn’t live yet. Your captions will then be reviewed after
clicking “Submit”. If you’d like to contribute a title or description, you can click this tab at the top of the page. Please note that you won’t be able to contribute
a title or description in the video’s original language. Once you enter in a title or description, just click
“Submit contribution”. And that’s it! Subscribe to our channel for more tips and
tricks.
